Ok so this might be a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyways. See I've heard that Flared plugs are a pain (literally) to get in. A friend of mine told me that they hurt like crap when putting them in. I've never worn any...mostly cause I haven't found any I like but I've been finding some good ones lately and so now I'm curious.

Any advice or insight?

not quite.

flares usually aren't much larger than the gauge you're at.

if you're only at fours i wouldn't think a flare would kill you.
flared plugs DO hurt, trust me, my ears are at a 3/4ths of an inch, and i always get thedouble falres. i let them grow back when i was pregnant then re gauged. but flares hurt, no like, but the good thing it you dont have to worry about your ears over stretching and the gauges falling out. Also, when you go to a bigger size, it makes the process ALOTTTTTT easier.
